Teaching to the whole student and connecting to the land are values that I model. Time outside engaging in our natural environment supports an interdisciplinary approach to curriculum and fosters mindfulness for social emotional literacy development.

It is important to reflect on why and when student progress is assessed. By asking reflective questions of myself, I ensure that I am observing what students know, their needs, and any gaps in learning. This supports a differentiated approach to teaching for universal student success.

Formative assessment provides ongoing and in the moment feedback, enriching learning activities and building relationships. It is a dynamic, reflective, collaborative conversation which sustains engagement, sparks curiousity, and enlivens the classroom environment.

How students demonstrate fully their competence and skills requires appropriate processes and instruments that align with course content and offer equal opportunity, consistency, transparency, and are free from bias. Multi-modal teaching and assessment strategies work to support all students.
